Life is a Game…Play to Win!

Life is a game and it must be approached as a game. This does not mean that it should be taken lightly or just blown off by meaningless activities. It actually increases the stakes. We must realize our lives are not simple or straight-forward. Our lives are complex, full of twists, turns, peaks and valleys. We must be ready to play!

The idea of life being a game turns some people off. There is a prevailing attitude that any form of competition is bad. This is a separate discussion, however.

Although life is a game, we are not really playing against other people. In the game of life, our only true opponent is time. That being said, time is a ruthless and relentless opponent. It doesn’t stop, it doesn’t slow down, it just keeps on going,

As a personified opponent, time has one major weakness in this struggle – it can only beat you when you procrastinate. This includes those frequent moments in which you allow fear to talk you out of taking risks and – in the most extreme scenarios – completely giving up on your dreams.

If you want to win in the game of life, one non-negotiable is that you must take risks. They should be calculated, absolutely, but don’t shy away from them simply because of what could go wrong. Make a strategic plan to make big moves and then execute.

Albert Einstein is quoted as saying “Learn the rules and then play better than everyone else!” This is an excellent summation of how to win at life. We are all playing the game, but some are absolutely playing better than everyone else.

Above all else, everything you do must be oriented towards a pursuit of your major goals in life. Whether or not you want it to be, life is absolutely a game. Play to win!
