When you are pursuing excellence, the people you have in your life must complement it, not complicate it. This includes everyone in your life from friends to lovers, and even spouses and family.
Many times it is the ones closest to us who can cause us the most pain and suffering. You must not allow personal ties you have with someone to allow them to hurt your progress in life. You only have one life. If a person is deliberately trying to dissuade you from pursuing your goals, you must evaluate whether or not that person truly has your best interest.
Toxic people are easy to identify, once you know the signs. Once you have identified someone as toxic, you must ruthlessly cut them out of your life. There is no room in a high-value person’s life for any toxicity. You’ll get enough of that from your enemies – you must avoid it from your friends.
Toxic people never help you level up. In fact, toxic people are often direct impediments to a person improving their own life. These are the doubters, the haters, and the people who always have a reason why your goals could never work. It’s ok to have a friend with a healthy sense of caution and the willingness to be brutally honest with you, but toxic people are perpetually negative about goals.
You must have supportive people in your inner circle. The world is brutal enough without having opposition inside the gates. You want allies and advisors who will give you constructive criticism based on the facts of the situation. This will help you to avoid mistakes while still moving forward.
Cut these naysayers out of your life. If you’re concerned about a blow up or awkward confrontation, it doesn’t have to be that way. You don’t have to make a big deal about ending your connections with toxic people. All you have to do is walk away.
