Master the Art of Self-Promotion

If you do something great, you have to be the one to tell the world about it. Nobody else is going to sing your praises. Nobody else is as close to you and the things you do, as you are. Be proud of your accomplishments and proclaim them boldly.

The days of quietly going about your business doing your job and being rewarded are over. There is so much more competition now and the methods of promotion have changed radically. Social media changed the game and now everyone who has a little motivation can promote themselves as the master of whatever industry they’re in.

Self-promotion is not the same as bragging or being arrogant. Arrogance is holding a belief that you are better than others. The arrogant person doesn’t have any time to listen to the opinions or successes of others.

Bragging differs from self-promotion in its intended purpose. A person who self promotes is marketing themselves. There is an emphasis on the future and possibilities. The braggart is focused on the past and looks for empty compliments about how great he is. His boasts are not focused on a potential of providing value to others in the future. He just wants to talk about how great he is because of what he has done.

Self-promotion is also a very powerful proactive defensive tool. When you become known as someone who produces results, there will be many jackals snapping at the chance to take credit for your hard work or ingenuity. Being a self promoter neutralizes their ability to take credit for your work or idea.

Always remember, if you do something great or come up with an amazing idea, plan, or solution, someone is going to take credit for that – that someone should always be you.
